Thousands more swimmers using Perth Leisure Pool after it was saved from closure

Perth Leisure Pool has seen a 25 per cent increase in usage with 20,000 swimmers using the venue over the Easter holidays.

It comes after the leisure pool area of the facility was threatened with closure due to Live Active Leisure facing the "most complex range of challenges it has ever faced in over 50 years".

In March the board made a one-year financial commitment to keep Perth Leisure Pool and neighbouring Dewars Centre fully open but urged locals for their support and the public has responded - much to Live Active Leisure's delight.

Live Active Leisure's chief executive Paul Cromwell told the Local Democracy Reporting Service the organisation was "delighted" to see an increasing number of customers using Perth Leisure Pool and for all the positive messages of support.

He said: "We're delighted to say that Perth Leisure Pool is continuing to see an increase in users, especially during school holidays. The leisure pool is a fantastic day out, not just for the local community, but for families travelling to the city from further afield.

"As we know, Perthshire is a popular holiday destination and offers an abundance of things to see and do, from outdoor adventures to visitor attractions, local independent shops to sport and leisure opportunities. It really does offer something for all.

"The increase in users, along with the messages of support we've received from customers, since the reported news of potential closures, has been welcomed. It's great to hear and see how the public value Perth Leisure Pool and the services we offer. Customer generated income is vital to organisations like ours and therefore I urge anyone who values the provision of our public leisure services to continue to use their local venue as often as you can."

Councillors were told of the increased usage of Perth Leisure Pool during an update to Perth and Kinross Council's Scrutiny and Performance Committee on Wednesday, April 26.

Mr Cromwell told the committee: "The recent Easter holidays provided the opportunity for 20,000 swimmers to use the venue which saw an increase of 25 per cent on the year before."

The leisure chief expressed a commitment to ensuring facilities are fully resourced during peak times.

He said: "We will also ensure we maximise opportunities available to us ensuring venues such as Perth Leisure Pool are fully resourced and able to provide a great customer experience during high demand periods."

Measures have been taken to "improve the customer journey" by digital and technical improvements which allow customers to book and pay for activities online across all Live Active Leisure venues.
