Sunnyslope is a mountainside neighborhood in north Phoenix. On one residential street, the front yard of a private home is filled with windmills topped with colorful mosaics, small concrete figures and rock fountains. Phoenix New Times notes that much of it can be seen from the street. The garden is the work of Grover Cleveland Thompson, a retired heavy-equipment operator who built it over two decades. It is a private property and not a public park, yet it has a long record of visitors, advocates and local attention.
