Thomas Tuchel sent Cristiano Ronaldo transfer warning as Todd Boehly faces Chelsea headache

William Gallas has warned Chelsea against the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo, with Thomas Tuchel set to encounter a tough dilemma. The Manchester United striker has been heavily linked with an exit from Old Trafford, and the west Londoners have emerged as a likely destination.

football.london understand that the Blues have sounded out a move for the 37-year-old, with Ronaldo keen to ply his trade in the Champions League this season. According to ESPN, the Portugal international is open to a move to Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea remain hesitant as to whether to escalate their interest, with Tuchel believed to have been granted the final say.

Despite Todd Boehly having laid out the groundwork to complete a deal after meeting with super agent Jorge Mendes, the German boss is not convinced. Singing from a similar hymn sheet, former Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas has warned Tuchel that Ronaldo won't suit the Blues, despite the obvious attraction of a deal.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is a world class player and everybody knows that he wants to play Champions League football," Gallas said, speaking to Genting Casino. "I don't think he would suit Chelsea. Cristiano and Thomas Tuchel should have a good conversation because if Chelsea really want to sign him then they will have to speak about everything."

However, the 44-year-old insisted that the Chelsea boss could solve the puzzle that United failed to crack should Boehly arm the club with necessary creative prowess. Gallas added: "Ronaldo is 37 now and even though people know he still has the quality because last season he was Man United's top goal-scorer, fans were still complaining about him for some reason and I didn't understand why because the problem was that the players around him didn't lift their level of performance.

"Cristiano is a top class player and when you play with players like him, you need to raise your game and some of the players didn't do that, maybe because of too much pressure or maybe because they just weren't good enough. If Ronaldo does sign for Chelsea, I'm sure the other players will learn a lot from him and I'm sure he'll score goals because the players around him will give him plenty of chances."
