Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea wish shut down as Todd Boehly's new-look board continues to take shape

Chelsea confirmed on Monday morning that Petr Cech will leave his role as Technical and Performance Advisor at the end of the month. The former Blues goalkeeper was appointed in his role three years ago, but is now looking for a new challenge in his career.

Cech said to the club's website: "It has been a huge privilege to perform this role at Chelsea for the past three years. With the Club under new ownership, I feel now is the right time for me to step aside. I am pleased that the Club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am confident of its future both on and off the pitch."

Todd Boehly, Chelsea's chairman and co-controlling owner added: "Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family. We understand his decision to step away and thank him for his contributions as an advisor and his commitment to the club and to our community. We wish him the best."

It's just the latest in a whole line of changes within the Chelsea hierarchy. Marina Granovskaia has been perhaps the most high-profile departure so far from the club's boardroom as she left her role as director after a 19-year spell in west London.

With Granovskaia and now Cech departing, this goes against Thomas Tuchel's clear wish he made almost two months ago now. The Chelsea head coach called on both to stay at the club amid the inevitable reshuffle.

While not directly naming either Granovskaia or Cech, Tuchel said: "As you know, I was so happy with the structure that the club provides and the mentality Chelsea provides. That was, for me, always the foundation to strongly believe and genuinely believe: 'OK, we will push and keep on pushing'.

"With this now being questioned, it's getting more demanding, not difficult because I don't know what's coming so let's see. But the key thing for me is that we keep the mentality in the building at least and in the club, the competitive mentality that was installed over more than a decade. It's a bit concerning and, hopefully, we can find our way through it."

It seems now as if the boardroom changes are all but done, bar replacements for Granovskaia and perhaps Cech. All focus from Chelsea turns to the transfer market and significantly improving their squad before the beginning of the 2022/23 season in less than six weeks' time.

The Blues hold a strong interest in both Jules Kounde and Matthijs de Ligt, football.london understands, as Tuchel looks to replace Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. Meanwhile, the clubs are interested in Ousmane Dembele, Raheem Sterling and Richarlison as attacking options.
