Thomas Tuchel's brave £68m transfer decision proves Chelsea's long-term plan is a success

As the ball hit the back of the Crystal Palace net, Trevoh Chalobah turned away, covered his face with his hands, and then snuck to his knees. A moment he had spent more than a decade working towards has been realised. He had scored his first Chelsea goal.

"I've been at this club since I was eight," an emotional Chalobah said after the Blues' opening win of their Premier League campaign.

"Playing at Stamford Bridge where I have watched a lot of games, where I have been a ball boy, watched games with my family...finally playing here is amazing. I couldn't believe it when the ball went in. I didn't know it went in until the crowd cheered. It was a surreal moment."
