Thomas Tuchel reveals Todd Boehly upset after Chelsea sacking amid major next job hint

Thomas Tuchel was sacked as Chelsea manager at the start of September as Todd Boehly decided to replace him with Graham Potter.

The German manager won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with the Blues during his 17 months at Stamford Bridge. Tuchel dealt with a number of problems throughout his tenure, most notably when Chelsea were sanctioned by the UK Government which led to the arrival of Boehly and the Clearlake consortium, completing a £4billion takeover of the west London outfit.

It's said that Tuchel was not happy with the 'extra responsibility' and 'more power' given to him in the summer transfer window, with the German passing up the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United which contributed to Boehly's decision to sack him following a poor start to the new season. The Telegraph added that the departure of former technical and performance advisor Petr Cech upset him.

The former Chelsea boss has now opened up on how he was 'upset' with Todd Boehly after the Blues co-owner took the decision to sack the German. Speaking to The Hindu, Tuchel said: "I loved every day at Chelsea.

"It came to an end too early for me. But it was out of my hands.

"This is also what you sign up for. You sign up for the good things if you’re a football coach, but sometimes things are out of your hands; you have to accept it and make the best out of the situation.

"Yes, I am upset. And I am sad because I think my job at Chelsea was not finished."

Just days before his sacking, Tuchel was looking forward to his 100th game in charge of the Blues, which eventually ended in a 1-0 defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League, and admitted he looked forward to another 100 in the future. The German continued: "I had a fantastic relationship with the players. We had a fantastic relationship with all the staff.

"We had overcome an incredibly demanding time in change of ownership and being sanctioned [by the UK government]. And before that we had COVID-19.

"So it was pretty demanding, but it was also very, very bonding. So we did this together, and I was in for the long run. I was ready to go a long way because I felt happy, but the owners had a different idea, and you have to accept it."

After a break from management, Tuchel has revealed he feels 'energised' but is yet to decide what his next managerial venture will be. "I feel energised, I feel calm," he added.

"I could not have expected more. I would recommend this [a break] to everybody who wants to discipline the body and the mind.

"I haven’t made a decision yet. It is now time for me to take a break. Some clubs have been calling my manager but we agreed that he would not call me here for these past 18 days."

When asked whether he would take a national team job, after he was linked with the England job to become Gareth Southgate's successor, Tuchel responded: "Yeah. Why not? I would, I would.

"I did not give too much thought to it until now. But I would consider if it is the right team and if it has the potential to win trophies like the World Cup and Euro.

"If it is a competitive team, it’s a competitive nation, why not? But it’s not my main focus."
