Thomas Tuchel ready to make Premier League managerial return after snubbing three clubs

Thomas Tuchel is reportedly keen on replacing Antonio Conte at Tottenham should the position become available.

Tuchel was surprisingly sacked by Chelsea in September with Graham Potter replacing him in the hot seat at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have struggled for results in recent months with fans recently chanting Tuchel's name during their four-goal FA Cup defeat at Manchester City.

Tuchel was not interested in taking over at Aston Villa following the sacking of Steven Gerrard in October, with Unai Emery appointed at Villa Park. That came after Bayer Leverkusen made an approach to appoint the out-of-work German, before moving to appoint Xabi Alonso.

Separate reports have outlined how Tuchel turned down approaches from two unnamed Premier League clubs as he postponed a return to the dugout but he is said to be open to replacing Conte at Spurs – just months after the two clashed in fiery scenes during a Premier League meeting this season.

Conte's position at Spurs is coming under scrutiny with the club falling short in the top four race in the Premier League with performances continuing to underwhelm. A report in the Standard claims that Tuchel is interested in the management position should it become available.

Spurs and Chelsea share a close rivalry but no shortage of former Blues bosses have subsequently moved on to coach the north London side, including Andre Villas-Boas, Jose Mourinho and current Tottenham boss Conte.

Sunday's north London derby defeat has piled the pressure on Conte, whose side are now five points off the Champions League qualification places. There is discontent among fans regarding the team's style of play.

Tuchel is unsurprisingly in high demand due to his outstanding coaching CV. He guided the Blues to the finals of both the FA Cup and EFL Cup last season, only for the team to be defeated by Liverpool in penalty shootouts in both showpieces. He secured successive top-four finishes during his Stamford Bridge tenure.

Tuchel's crowning moment in the Stamford Bridge dugout was winning the club's second Champions League final in 2021, just months after replacing Frank Lampard in the role. He had previously guided Paris Saint-Germain to their only-ever final of Europe’s premier club competition a season prior to winning the trophy with the Blues.

Opening up on his departure from the West London club in September, Tuchel added: "I loved every day at Chelsea. It came to an end too early for me, but it was out of my hands. This is also what you sign up for."
