Thomas Tuchel may have already revealed Edouard Mendy's reaction to the decision to bring him off in Chelsea's Carabao Cup final defeat to Liverpool.
The two Premier League giants played out a thoroughly entertaining 0-0 draw in the Wembley showpiece before the game eventually went to penalties.
Tuchel decided to bring Mendy off for backup goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga just before the spot-kicks were taken, but the Spaniard was unable to save any of the 11 penalties he faced before missing himself to hand Jurgen Klopp and Co the trophy.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss made the same decision back in August when the Blues defeated Villarreal on penalties in the Super Cup final and he claimed that Mendy reacted perfectly to the decision.
"No, no. It was not spontaneous," Tuchel told BT Sport after the match against Unai Emery's men.
"We talked about it with the goalkeepers when we came and had the first cup game against Barnsley
"So we had some statistics, we were well prepared, [knowing] that Kepa is the best percentage at saving penalties.
"The analysing guys, the goalkeeping coaches showed me, introduced me to the data and then we spoke with the players that this can happen when we play in knockout games.
"And since then they know it. It’s fantastic how Edou accepts it, it’s fantastic how this talk went on the morning before the cup game against Barnsley – and since then they know.
"Of course, we needed to do what’s best for the team so if we needed a sixth change before it was necessary… but I’m happy that it worked."
