Thomas Tuchel drops major team news hint ahead of Chelsea's FA Cup clash against Plymouth

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has already hinted that a strong Blues team will be selected against League One Plymouth to ensure that his side avoid what happened to Man United.

Ralf Rangnick's men were the first casualties of the FA Cup fourth round as Middlesbrough repeated their trick from the 2015 League Cup to inflict more cup misery on the Red Devils.

Anthony Elanga missed the vital penalty as the Old Trafford based club now are expected to not finish the season with any silverware, to the dismay of the Man United faithful.

So, is it really a surprise to see the Chelsea manager now looking to avoid this mistake by playing a very strong team against the side from Cornwall?

"Of course, it would be a big surprise but it wouldn't be the first surprise in 150 years of the FA Cup. We better be realistic about it that we are the favourites and what we demand of ourselves in this match," Tuchel warned in his pre-match press conference.

"At the same time, we respect the game and anything can happen. That's the beauty of this game. That's why everybody is in love with football. So we better respect it and be serious. Of course, it is in our hands and hopefully, it stays in our hands. From there we need to prove it. We can't hide the fact that we are huge favourites."

Tuchel reaffirmed this point in his interview with the Chelsea website where he hinted that this is not the time for youngsters at this point in the competition.

He said: "This game is not about the youngsters.

"It is about being ready again after one week break and one week of training. It's about being ready to win the next game and restart the engines.

"All the respect to the young guys, I'm happy with them when we needed them, they performed very well, but the professional squad will take care of the Plymouth game."

This sentiment has been echoed by Goal who have already reported that Chelsea have indeed selected a strong side for this FA Cup fourth round tie.

Therefore, who could play and start in this contest?

It has already been revealed that five players in total, three out injuredandt two non-selectors due to their involvements during the international period, will not be present in the starting eleven in this contest.

Ben Chilwell, Reece James and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have no chance of starting due to injuries whilst both Christian Pulisic and Thiago Siva have international exceptions to their name before they re-join the squad for the Abu Dhabi trip next week.

Chelsea's social media has hinted already that Antonio Rudiger is one player who is expected to at least feature with veteran Silva absent and their matchday graphic seems to suggest this will be the case.

The 28-year-old has been the talk of the day already off the pitch, with the defender reportedly rejecting a new £200,000 a week offer in favour of holding out for closer to £225,000.

As shown already though throughout this whole saga, the German international has not let this uncertainty over his future tint his focus on the pitch.

"First of all, we have a job to do in the FA Cup against Plymouth, which we have to have full focus on and start very well," he said ahead of Plymouth to the Chelsea website.

"After that there’s the FIFA Club World Cup and we have to be on our toes for that as well.

"Everyone had a good break so we are all fresh and you can see in training that everyone is motivated. We just have to keep going game by game trying to win all the time."
