Thomas Tuchel commits to Chelsea future and plans solutions with Todd Boehly amid Blues takeover

Thomas Tuchel has confirmed his desire to stay at Chelsea with the club on the verge of new ownership. A group led by Todd Boehly and including Clearlake Capital, Mark Walter and Hansjoerg Wyss have agreed a deal to acquire the club from Roman Abramovich.

The takeover is expected soon, with late May having been touted as when the move could be confirmed. It has been suggested that those involved in the process have found a solution to satisfy the government money will not be direct to Abramovich, but reports remain conflicting.

Tuchel has had to deal with the press and take on topics he never likely considered when signing his contract in early 2021 or even his extension following the Champions League win. However, as the process has developed, the German coach has simply acknowledged there is little he can do to impact the situation and maintains that he feels wanted at the club.

The Blues boss is excited by the future for the Blues and hopes he remains a good fit at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel said: "It's also the feeling that I get, that I'm in the right place, and I'm not always questioning myself as to will I be in charge, will I not be in charge. It feels genuine that I'm right here, that I'm wanted here and that it's still a very, very good fit here. I like to be here, and I'm looking forward to what's coming. We would have really liked to have had things in a different way, and it came out of nothing. But if you have zero influence in the circumstances, then the only thing you can change is your attitude to the circumstances because I cannot do anything around the situation, so I try to have a positive attitude to what's coming and to find solutions when it's ready. I'm happy where I am, and I will try to do my very best so that everyone around is happy that I'm here."

Boehly has already met with both Tuchel and Emma Hayes at Cobham and persuaded both of his ambition, even if his conversation with the 48-year-old former Dortmund coach was fairly casual. With it already acknowledged that Chelsea have a rebuilding job, it won't be long until supporters find out if Tuchel's assessment was accurate.

He said: "He paid some money for it, so I don't think he is keen to drop the ambition. That would be a big surprise, so no, I don't doubt this. We will share our opinion in more detail over the next weeks, and I am sure he is as ambitious to build a competitive Chelsea for the highest level.

"We had lunch together, but it was in the room where everybody was, like players and staff. He was very friendly, very open, and it was a very informal meeting over lunch.

"It was like half an hour, 40 minutes, so it was not too detailed. It was just to get a feeling and say hello, and we talked more about baseball and basketball, actually. It was not the moment, we will do this next week, the next weeks."
