Thomas Tuchel has been appointed as the new head coach of the England national football team, with the aim of leading the team to their first major trophy since the 1966 World Cup victory. The German, who has previously managed top clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich, will officially begin his tenure in January in preparation for the 2026 World Cup in the United States.

The English Football Association (FA) expressed their excitement over securing Tuchel's services, highlighting his impressive track record of winning major trophies across Europe. Tuchel becomes England's third foreign coach, following in the footsteps of Sven-Goran Eriksson and Fabio Capello.

In his statement, Tuchel expressed his personal connection to English football and his eagerness to work with the talented group of players within the national team. He takes over from Gareth Southgate, who stepped down after leading England to consecutive European Championship finals and a World Cup semifinal.

The FA revealed that Tuchel was selected after a thorough interview process, emphasizing his success at the highest level of the game and his familiarity with English football. Tuchel's recent achievements include winning the Champions League with Chelsea and league titles with PSG and Bayern Munich.

As part of his coaching staff, Tuchel will be joined by his former Chelsea assistant Anthony Barry, with the collective goal of preparing England for success at the 2026 World Cup. The FA is confident that Tuchel and his team will provide the best possible chance for England to compete at the highest level.

Prior to officially assuming his role, Tuchel will oversee the draw for the World Cup qualifying groups in December. In the interim, Lee Carsley will continue to lead the England Under 21s team for upcoming Nations League matches.
