Thomas Cashman to stand trial next year over Olivia Pratt-Korbel's murder

Thomas Cashman is set to stand trial next year charged with the murder of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

The 34-year-old - of Grenadier Drive in West Derby - was charged with murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life over the weekend. He appeared at Liverpool Crown Court this afternoon, Monday, to face these counts.

Cashman - who sat slumped in his seat and with his head bowed - was not asked to enter a plea, but a four-week trial was set for March 6 next year. Judge Neil Flewitt KC remanded him into custody ahead of a further appearance on January 10.

Olivia's mum Cheryl Korbel and her dad John Francis Pratt were present in the public gallery during the brief hearing. A heavy police presence was in place outside the court and within the building.

The youngster was fatally shot in the chest with a .38 caliber revolver inside her own home on Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot on evening of Monday, August 22. The gunman had been chasing after 35-year-old Joseph Nee, who was also injured and remains in hospital for treatment, at the time of the shooting.

Multiple shots were fired during the attack, with 46-year-old Cheryl having been wounded as well. Charge sheets also allege that Cashman had been armed with a Glock handgun.

He had first appeared before Liverpool Magistrates' Court this morning. Paul Russell, of Snowberry Road in West Derby, was also brought in front of magistrates charged with assisting an offender in relation to Olivia's murder.

The 40-year-old is accused of driving Cashman to an address and disposing of his clothing. He was remanded into custody to appear in the crown court on October 31.
