Thomas Brown talks about entering his first game as Panthers OC

Thomas Brown is less than 70 hours away from his first regular-season game as the Carolina Panthers offensive coordinator. So, how is he feeling?

The 37-year-old was asked about that on Thursday, prior to the team’s penultimate practice for their Week 1 matchup with the Atlanta Falcons. He had this to say:

“I’ve been excited from Day One, havin’ a chance to be in this role. Like I mentioned even before, starting the offseason process, had a couple opportunities from an interview standpoint. But this is the one I was, hopefully, gonna end up with and it worked that way, thankfully.

“But I think me, it’s about being able to just take it one day at a time. I know coaches say all the time—but, honestly, I’m just . . . it’s Thursday, we just got done with the walkthrough, about to get ready for practice in a minute. So, the game will take care of itself. I think, ultimately, that when we prepare ourselves—myself included—the easier and smoother game day goes.”

Brown was hired to the position back on Feb. 17. He had spent the previous three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams—where he worked as a running backs coach, tight ends coach and assistant head coach under Sean McVay.

And while he did learn quite a bit from one of the most acclaimed offensive minds in the game, Brown will have to wait to take over play-calling duties from Panthers head coach Frank Reich. Sunday will, nonetheless, represent the first official step in a much-deserved journey for the up-and-coming coach.
