One of the most eccentric and divisive figures of the 21st century will inevitably go down as Elon Musk.
The Tesla (TSLA) -) CEO and Twitter (now X) owner, who is also working on sending humans to Mars and is the head of about half a dozen other companies is only 52 years old. But author Walter Isaacson thought it wise to get ahead of the curve and write his biography while the firebrand is still alive and well.
DON'T MISS: CNN just made primetime ratings history (not in a good way)
The 688-page biography, appropriately titled "Elon Musk" was released on September 12, 2023. As with many other Isaacson books, it immediately shot up the charts with all the vim and vigor one might expect from a tell-all about one of the most fascinating men in our modern history.
In fact, the book has been out for less than 10 days as of this writing and it already has well over 520 reviews and 4.6 stars on Amazon (AMZN) -) -- the world's largest book store. Publishing stalwart Simon & Schuster had high hopes for the book, which sold 92,560 copies in the first week.
But something strange has happened over those 10 days. It's not the number one best-selling book on Amazon, where a majority of folks get their reads (either on hard cover, Kindle or audiobook).
Elon's biography isn't number one — here's what is
That number one title has been quietly nabbed by conservative author and Fox News host Mark Levin, whose new book "The Democrat Party Hates America," shot to number one almost overnight.
The book, which was released on September 19 (just one week after Isaacson's bio on Musk) has held steady at number one but without the press tour and PR that "Elon Musk," has enjoyed.
It boasts just 53 reviews on Amazon and a 4.3 star rating. It's also slightly shorter than "Elon," coming in at 400 pages. It was published by independent publisher Threshold Editions.
"Insightful and hard-hitting as ever, Levin proves that since its establishment, the Democrat Party has set out to rewrite history and destroy the foundation of freedom in America. More than a political party, it is the entity through which Marxism has installed its philosophy and its new revolution," the book's description on Amazon reads.
Inside, the book is equally critical of modern American politics.
"America is unraveling," his introduction states. "Our founding and history are under assault. Our families and faiths are being degraded. Individualism has been substituted for groupism...The government is banning and regulating more and more household products, from incandescent bulbs to dishwashers, while creating shortages and driving up costs of others...Crime is out of control on our streets, public transportation, and schools, while police budgets are slashed and many prosecutors and judges coddle violent criminals."
And Levin squarely takes aim at who he blames for this.
"The Democrat Party is responsible for most of this and much more," he writes.
Levin has written over 25 works and had at least nine best sellers. No stranger to the top of the charts himself, the author, historian, and constitutionalist sold over 1.5 million copies of his book "American Tyranny," which spent three months as a best seller. He currently hosts "Life, Liberty & Levin" on Fox News Sunday evenings.
