A cost-savvy traveller has shared a 'genius' hack that could save you paying for Ryanair carry-on luggage by simply making a trip to Penneys.

Nicole Baskerville amazed viewers after she took to TikTok to reveal her top money-saving tip.

In her video, she explained how she avoids paying an extra baggage fee to take a 10kg suitcase on board.

She said: "You know Ryanair, you now have to pay for extra baggage, and you literally just get free handbag. Well, this is your handbag."

The TikToker then showed a child's suitcase that she picked up in Penney's, packed with all of her travel essentials.

She said: "I got this in Penneys and it's a kids' suitcase. It's the smallest one I could find.

Nicole said: "And it fits into the compartment, it fits under the seat. And voila - it fits so much.

"I have a jacket. I have heels. I have a few pairs of clothes. I have all my toiletries. It's actually massive.

"I felt like I had a full suitcase full of clothes… and this is my handbag."

She added: "I got this one in Penneys. It's a Minnie Mouse one, so it was €35, but there was no other suitcase that was smaller."

The video instantly went viral as people praised the passenger for her innovative thinking.

However, some viewers were sceptical as to whether the hack would really work.

They said: "omg have you gotten on with this?? My tote bag felt too big, and I was nervous walking by them boarding".

But Nicole was quick to confirm that the trick was a success.

She replied: "YES! Just flew to Birmingham with it and no questions asked because it fit perfectly under the seat hehehehehe".

While others shared their own hacks for cost-effective travelling.

They said: "LIFE HACK - buy vacuum bags, put everything into it and vacuum it down, shove it in the bag, creates so much more room! It's heavy but they don't weigh".

Passengers could stand to save up to €40 by using the hack as those flying with Ryanair are permitted to have two cabin bags, a 10kg bag and a handbag that can fit underneath the seat if they book as priority. This usually costs between €8 - €30 when booked online. If prebooked, a 10kg check-in bag costs between €12.99 - €23.99, and if charged at the airport, it can cost €23.99 - €35.99.
