Liam Gallagher kept his Hampden promise and dedicated Champagne Supernova to a beloved Ayrshire dad.
The former Oasis rocker made sure to give Ayr's James McGarrie, known as Mij a shout out in an emotional moment for his family at the national stadium on Sunday.
A heartwarming clip taken by Suzann McKenzie, James’ ex-partner captures the moment Liam takes a break from belting out the hit 90s tune to honour the Ayr dad-of-two who tragically took his life in 2019.
During a stunning guitar solo the singing icon said: “And this one's for Mij man, I forgot to say! He’s one of your boys, Champagne Supernova for Mij.”
The video shows their ecstatic response as Suzann and James’s sister Christine McGarrie can be heard absolutely buzzing.
Also in the crowd was James’s 15-year-old son TJ who was there to hear the song dedicated to his dad.
After the gig, Suzann told Ayrshire Live: “It was brilliant, I’m still gobsmacked, it is just amazing.
“I can always remember James listening to Oasis, I look at how much he loved Liam, he saw Liam as an icon.
“And now his icon has shouted out his nickname, it is just so personal.
“I can’t stop smiling. I’m just so happy, it’s made my heart feel so full.”
Earlier in the gig Suzann and the family were left in awe as Liam pointed towards their Union Jack flag which was made in memory of James.
Ayrshire Live first told last week how the family launched an emotion packed Tik Tok urging Liam to dedicate his final track at Hampden for Mij.
The video which showed pictures of Oasis-daft James over the backing track of Stay Young by the Manchester band was sent by sister Christine McGarrie to the frontman.
And the video certainly struck a chord with the Rock n Roll Star who tweeted to his millions of followers that Champagne Supernova will be sung for Mij, just hours after the Tik Tok was released.
The national stadium even paid tribute to James with the official Hampden Facebook page sharing a stunning clip of Champagne Supernova with #LoveForMij.
We told how the family have been going through the heartache of the Ayr Cemetery scandal with James buried at the crisis-hit extension.
Suzann added: “Liam is an absolute legend, the fact he’s dedicated a song to Mij as if he knows him, it means the world to me and all of James’s family after everything we have been through.”
