This Morning viewers slam 'tone deaf' segment as Georgia Toffolo sent on Mexican holiday

This Morning viewers have labelled the ITV daytime show “tone deaf” after a segment saw Georgia Toffolo head off on a lavish tropical ‘Mexican adventure’.

ITV host Holly Willoughby introduced the segment as something to “cheer up” viewers in the depths of winter as part of This Morning's four-part holiday series which is sending ITV presenters abroad for 2022.

The segment showed Made in Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo in a luxury resort in Cancún before she embarked on a speed boat trip to nearby tropical island Isla Mujeres.

However as the 27-year-old reality star went on a tour of the island with local restaurant owner Javi, This Morning viewers took to Twitter to criticise the segment, with many referring to the ongoing cost of living crisis in the UK.

One viewer wrote: “This item on #ThisMorning is tone deaf. So many are worried about how they’re going to eat/not freeze to death.

“Meanwhile TM have sent Toff on a 5-star holiday to Mexico. Can guarantee that if any of your viewers do make it away this year, they won’t be in a room like that!”

Another This Morning viewer wrote: “#ThisMorning People are having to choose between eating and heating and they show us a rich bird having a holiday in Mexico at their expense. #outoftouch”

A third social media user wrote: “Ok but how is this supposed to help with me feeling down? #ThisMorning”

A fourth weighed in saying: “Hey everyone, we know how worried you are about the huge cost of living rise, so here's a very rich woman swanning around Mexico to cheer you up #thismorning”

This comes as the governor of the Bank of England, Andrew Bailey, has warned that inflation could hit 7.25 per cent by April and is unlikely to fall back to normal levels for two years.

Meanwhile another wrote: “Does anyone else feel really good after that wholesome segment of watching someone else on holiday? no, me neither.

“It’s like going shopping with a rich friend and the only thing you can do is window shop whilst they buy everything around them. How is that “fun”? #ThisMorning”

As Georgia romped around the island’s golden sand and waxed lyrical about “long lazy beach days”, a fellow social media user tweeted: “Love seeing ‘celebs’ on free holidays, makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. #thismorning”

As the I’m a Celeb winner wolfed down on a “superb” grilled fish cooked in banana leaves with Javi, another viewer tweeted: “Always makes me feel better watching someone else having free holiday… Said no one……ever #ThisMorning”

Another wrote: “Dear #ThisMorning viewers; we know you’re struggling to feed and heat yourself but to make you feel better we’ve decided to send Toff all over the world”

Georgia closed the segment by saying: “What an amazing day I’ve had on this island. From the food, to the company, to my new friends, there’s only one more thing left to do,” as she jumped into the watery sinkhole Cenotes.

Back in the studio, Holly said: “I almost felt the warmth of the ocean,” as Alison replied: “It’s just nice watching that, it just makes you feel good.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
