This Morning viewers were in tears as they tuned into Thursday's show and saw an interview with former soldier Toby Gutteridge.
Toby was shot in the neck whilst serving in Afghanistan back in 2009 and joined hosts Vernon Kay and Rochelle Humes in the ITV studio to promote his new book, Never Will I Die.
After a difficult childhood, Toby became one of youngest-ever Special Forces recruits and was touted as one of the best soldiers in the world.
Toby survived the shooting, despite not breathing for 20 minutes and doctors recommending his life support be switched off, he is now quadriplegic and runs Bravery, an extreme sports brand that empowers people who’ve overcome adversity.
Toby explained to Vernon and Rochelle that he can't remember the incident but he can remember getting prepped for the night mission.
Toby explained that his fellow soldiers thought that he was dead and said: "The way I fell, they'd seen enough death to know that mine was instantaneous and usually if there's no screaming or shouting, usually it means that it's really serious.
"If someone's still shouting or screaming, at least you know they're still alive, but in my situation I just hit the deck."
Speaking about he adjusted to life after the shooting, Toby told Vernon and Rochelle: "I had to find new purpose and drive in my life, and my life story is just crazy and I think this book will help a lot of people."
Toby continued: "It was hard, it was incredibly hard because I lost my identity you know and I had to figure out what I could do now in terms of using my brain and what I had left."
When Toby initially woke up, he thought that he had been captured and said: "I just went back to my default settings."
"The next thing, I wake up and I can't move with all kinds of people staring at me and I thought, 'Right, I must have been captured', and yeah, default settings which is revert back to my training and go through my training of resistance in interrogation."
This Morning fans were instantly moved by Toby's appearance and took to Twitter to comment.
"This is absolutely heartbreaking. Poor Toby. It’s got me in tears. #ThisMorning," one person said.
Another tweeted: "Heartbreaking.. absolute hero #thismorning," while a third added: "What an inspiring man on #ThisMorning today."
Someone else posted: "Feel so bad for this guy, especially when it's all wholly unnecessary #ThisMorning."
And a different viewer commented: "Could listen to him all day. What a legend. Thank you for your service Sir. #ThisMorning."
