This Morning star responds to 'snub' as he breaks silence after Phillip Schofield quits ITV

This Morning presenter Craig Doyle has broken his silence on Instagram after Phillip Schofield sensationally quit ITV.

The 61-year-old broadcaster stepped down from This Morning last weekend amid ongoing rumours over a feud with co-star Holly Willoughby. On Friday, May 26, Mr Schofield issued a statement to the Daily Mail that he was quitting ITV altogether with immediate effect.

Mr Schofield previously announced he would continue his working relationship with the channel and was scheduled to host the British Soap Awards. However, Mr Schofield will step down from this role as well after admitting to having an affair with a younger male colleague who worked on ITV's daytime programme.

In the statement, Mr Schofield apologised for lying about the relationship to his colleagues but stressed the relationship was "unwise but not illegal".

In a statement sent to the Daily Mail on Friday, Phillip Schofield said: "I have therefore decided to step down from the British Soap Awards, my last public commitment, and am resigning from ITV with immediate effect expressing my immense gratitude to them for all the amazing opportunities that they have given me."

Following the announcement, fellow ITV star Rylan has broken his silence on Instagram but hs not addressed Mr Schofield's exit directly. Craig Doyle, a guest presenter on This Morning, has also taken to the social media platform following Rishi Sunak's appearance on the show.

The Prime Minister appeared on This Morning on Thursday, May 25, where he was interviewed by Craig and Alison Hammond. Mr Sunak was clearly pleased to be appearing on the show alongside Alison and took to Instagram himself to share his delight.

He posted: "Inflation down. Energy bills down. And I even got to meet @AlisonHammond. What a week."

Despite sharing a picture of himself being interviewed by Alison and Craig, Mr Sunak failed to mention the 52-year-old. Craig clearly wasn't impressed by the snub and took to Instagram himself to share the post with the caption 'Ermmm hiya' and a waving hand emoji.

The post was Craig's first since Mr Schofield left ITV. The 61-year-old broadcaster apologised to his ITV colleagues as he announced his exit from the channel yesterday.

His statement continued: "His statement continued: "I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning. Contrary to speculation, whilst I met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television, it was only after he started to work on the show that it became more than just a friendship. That relationship was unwise, but not illegal. It is now over.

"When I chose to come out I did so entirely for my own wellbeing. Nobody "forced" me out. Neither I nor anyone else, to my knowledge, has ever issued an injunction, super or otherwise, about my relationship with this colleague, he was never moved on or sacked by or because of me.

"In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven't been truthful about the relationship. But my recent, unrelated, departure from This Morning fuelled speculation and raised questions which have been impacting him, so for his sake it is important for me to be honest now.

"I am painfully conscious that I have lied to my employers at ITV, to my colleagues and friends, to my agents, to the media and therefore the public and most importantly of all to my family. I am so very, very sorry, as I am for having been unfaithful to my wife."
