This Morning 's 'tone deaf' fashion segment has been slammed by viewers for featuring items even pricier than escalating energy bills.
The ITV show’s fashion editor Amber Jackson joined hosts Rochelle Humes and Phillip Schofield to discuss the latest trends, and introduced a segment on how to dress on a budget.
However, the pieces she had chosen to demonstrate affordable fashion on the high street frustrated viewers, who couldn’t believe the unrealistically pricey outfit choices.
Amber revealed a number of outfits from the upcoming season, and called them “wearable and affordable” as she told Phillip and Rochelle: “You don’t have to spend a fortune to stay on trend this year.”
One outfit included a long black coat from the brand Reserved, which retailed at £99.99, as well as a pair of trousers from Arket, which were priced at £59.
“Yep, that £99 coat sure looks affordable and stylish(!)” one viewer fumed on Twitter.
“That wardrobe would cost you your electricity and gas bill!” another added.
“People struggling to pay energy bills and #thismorning telling us £59 for a pair of black trousers is great value,” one wrote.
One of the most expensive fashion picks for the ‘affordable’ segment was a pair of boots from Topshop, priced at £100.
“Your fashion segment is totally unrealistic and unrelatable in the current climate. Are you completely tone (deaf)? That's what it costs to feed the average family a few days!” one irate viewer fired.
“Over £200… they call that AFFORDABLE???” another agreed, as one said they would be choosing to shop at fast fashion chain Primark instead, after Amber picked a £15 cardigan from their new range.
“Primark all the way!! It's not what you wear it's how you wear it!” a viewer tweeted.
Others were furious at the lack of awareness the fashion segment had, especially as thousands have lost jobs and income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Unemployment rates at their highest levels and #thismorning advertises absolutely ridiculous expensive tat,” one raged.
“81 quid for one outfit is a fortune for lots of people #ThisMorning,” another agreed.
Some were also unimpressed with the clothes that were picked by Amber, as they disagreed with her ‘on trend’ outfits.
“The fashion segment is shocking today and they all look like they’ve been thrown at the mannequins #thismorning,” one wrote.
“This is probably the most unfashionable fashion segment I’ve ever seen. This girl hasn’t a clue !!! #ThisMorning,” an irked viewer added.
And one suggested that they keep recycling the same outfits on This Morning and have run out of ideas.
“I'm no fashionista - no, honestly I'm not - but weren't all these clothes on last week's show? And the week before?” they asked.
