This Morning's Phillip Schofield says Harry and Meghan should 'just shut up' in brutal dig

This Morning’s Phillip Schofield took savage aim at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as he returned to the ITV morning programme this week.

Joined by former MP Gyles Brandreth and journalist Camilla Tominey alongside co-host Holly Willoughby, the conversation in the studio turned to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex returning to Frogmore Cottage.

The couple are making their first visit to the UK since the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, but it's not known whether the duke and duchess will meet other members of the Royal Family this week.

Camilla brought the conversation to Meghan’s recent launch of her Spotify podcast, interviewing the likes of Serena Williams and Mariah Carey in its first episodes, creating a blizzard of publicity.

Camilla commented that the podcasts have still taken aim at the Royal Family, which proved to be lucrative for the couple when it came to boosting media for their upcoming projects.

Hitting back, Phil fumed: “There's no dignity in that though is there?”

Taken back by his strong view, Camilla replied: “Well, no,” as the host added: “I mean the Queen is 96-years-old, dignified her entire life, now having to cope with this.

“There have been rumours that she and the Prince of Wales are 'bewildered' by what they are saying.

“We've been very sympathetic and then sometimes we've been critical but then you look at it and think, oh why don't you both just shut up.”

This comes as Phillip celebrated 20 years of working on the daytime show on Tuesday morning, when Holly told viewers: “We couldn’t start today’s show without mentioning something very special. Actually, it really is a huge achievement.”

Phillip was aghast as he said he didn’t realise, before the show played a video montage of clips – including an I’m a Celeb segment on the show – from Phillip’s first day at This Morning.

After watching the clips, Phillip said: “Oh my god, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that! That must have been the first series of I’m a Celeb… that’s mad.”

Holly said: “Do you know what’s weird about that? Seeing you as the new boy. That’s so weird because it just feels like you’ve been here forever.”

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
