This Morning's Phillip Schofield panics co-star with 'urgent' hot water bottle warning

Phillip Schofield fired an 'urgent' warning at his This Morning co-star Gyles Brandreth in the opening minutes of Monday's show, after the regular guest made what he thought was a harmless quip about a hot water bottle.

Fresh from hosting the latest Dancing on Ice live show on Sunday night, Phillip was back in the This Morning studio alongside Holly Willoughby, with the ITV daytime show's main presenters joined by Gyles and fellow guest Sonia Sodah to talk through the days big new stories, including reports that the National Grid are set to 'pay customers' with smart meters, who switch off their electricity between 5 and 6pm.

Gyles told the others that he was watching his meter "by the hour," after his boiler packed in last week, saying: "We are now in a cold house..." as Holly interrupted: "This is the coldest it's been, it's the worst time."

Gyles replied: "But think how much we're saving and we've rediscovered the hot water bottle!"

With a cheeky grin on his face, he then joked: "And what a companion! Last night I had a naked hot water bottle. I tore off the little woolly covering and it was wonderful. The smack of form rubber against your skin!"

However, while Gyles was being playful with his story and Phillip initially laughed, he made the tone slightly more serious for a second, when he told Gyles: "You should check the date on them as well, because and Alice Beer was talking about this just the other week; there's a date on the hot water bottle."

Gyles interrupted: "These are my mum's old hot water bottles," as Phillip shot back: "That's dangerous! That's dangerous!"

Gyles explained that he'd had the hot water bottles he was talking about for over 15 years, with Phillip adding: "Yes you need a new hot water bottle" and as Gyles asked: "Are you being serious," the presenter remarked: "Yeah, yeah, yeah...we talked about this the other day."
