This Morning's Phillip Schofield left 'blindsided' by major announcement at start of show

Phillip Schofield looked genuinely surprised on being told that Tuesday marked 20 years to the day he started on This Morning.

On only his second day back alongside Holly Willoughby since the presenting duo returned from their lengthy summer break, Phillip was the subject of what he claimed was a total surprise at the start of the programme as it was revealed he'd reached a landmark on the ITV daytime show.

Co-host Holly kicked off the live broadcast by telling viewers, “We couldn’t start today’s show without mentioning something very special. Actually, it really is a huge achievement.”

Looking massively taken aback by what Holly had just said, Phillip responded, “I didn’t realise!” Explaining how they found out about Phillip's big This Morning anniversary, "Holly explained, “Yesterday, we were doing our meeting, it’s always at the end of the show and it’s like, ‘What’s coming on tomorrow’s show’ and the producers went, ‘Did you know, it’s 20 years exactly since Phil officially started presenting on This Morning? 20 years!’”

Phillip reacted: “It’s gone like that," as a clip from his first programme at the helm of This Morning, alongside Fern Britton, played out on screen. Responding to what he was watching in front of him, the 60-year-old said: "Oh my god, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that! That must have been the first series of I’m a Celeb… that’s mad.”

Also watching the clip intently, Holly commented: "“Do you know what’s weird about that? Seeing you as the new boy. That’s so weird because it just feels like you’ve been here forever. "

And it was then that Phillip, who also presents Dancing on Ice with Holly and was famous in the late 80s and 90s for Going Live and Live & Kicking, opened up on his nerves on his first day in the This Morning studio, telling Holly: “I was nervy as well. Fern was so lovely looking after me!”

He then added: "I never forget how lucky I am, so thank you very much.”
