Phillip Schoifeld and Holly Willoughby risked annoying a lot of This Morning viewers on Monday, with his admission that they were given early access to the Happy Valley finale; getting to watch it days before it aired on BBC One,.
After three series of intense drama, Sally Wainwright's smash hit drama came to a gripping end on Sunday night, with an extended finale that pulled in millions of viewers. The BBC have been praised for keeping Happy Valley as 'event TV,' meaning that fans have had to wait a week between each episode, rather than getting to binge it all in one go on iPlayer.
However, while the majority of Brits had to wait until Sunday at 9pm to feast their eyes on the 70 minute long Happy Valley finale, it has materialised that This Morning hosts Phillip and Holly got to see it on Friday. And it was Phillip himself who came clean on being handed an early copy of the episode.
How Happy Valley ended was a big talking point on Monday's edition of the ITV daytime show and, after warning viewers to turn down the volume if they wanted to avoid any spoilers, Phillip said: "We were on Dancing On Ice last night and we were very lucky - and thank you to the BBC for sending through the final episode, they sent it through the preview last week so we got to watch it on Friday. Now, that's a secret you have to keep quiet. I had to have such a poker face.."
Given the backlash against both Lorraine and BBC News over the weekend, with both programmes being accused of 'ruining' Happy Valley by showing previously unseen clips, Phillip and Holly were both very careful to pre-empt any such allegations being made against them.
As well as a 'volume down' icon appearing on screen, Phillip told viewers: ""I am going to do it once more. If you are watching us, and you watch Happy Valley but you have not yet watched the final episode, and you want to avoid the spoilers, you might want to mute
