This Morning's Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield 'powerless' as show hit by technical chaos

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield managed to ride the storm as This Morning was struck by technical chaos on Monday.

Things got off to an unexpected start on the ITV daytime show when regular contributor Gyles Brandreth arrived on set, flanked by trumpeters to announce that the show would be making a switch to Buckingham Palace for one day only, in honour of The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Next week, Her Majesty will celebrate 70 years on the throne and, ahead of the nation enjoying an extended bank holiday to mark the occasion, Holly and Phillip will present from her famous home.

After Holly admitted she was 'nearly in tears,' at the Buckingham Palace announcement, things went rather awry for her and presenting partner in crime Phillip as cameras continued to roll. The first blunder occurred as the hosts crossed live to the Chelsea Flower Show, only for the sound to be massively distorted. This prompted Phillip to issue an apology, with him saying: We're going to have to leave there unfortunately because we've got a massive problem with the audio so we're losing your sound."

Trying to sweep the technical glitch under the rug, Holly then added: "They look beautiful those flowers though - they did look gorgeous. What a shame, you'll have to go yourself." As the live feed cut, Phillip remarked: "Phillip added: "Definitely one of those links that was destined never to work." with Holly replying: "It was, wasn't it - what a shame."

Unfortunately for Holly and Phillip and the rest of the This Morning team, the errors didn't end there. Gyles was back on camera to front an item on outfits for pets but, disaster struck again as the screen behind him started to flicker constantly, with bosses then making the decision to switch it off completely as viewers at home became distracted.

After those technical blunders, Holly's hopes for a calm end to Monday's show were then blighted when she and Phillip welcomed legendary puppet icon Sooty to the studio, with Holly being on the receiving end of a trick as she was sprayed by a water pistol.
