This Morning's Holly & Phil back in good spirits as calls mount for them to apologise

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield seemed back to their usual selves on This Morning today.

The pair opened the show with a laugh and a joke about Holly's mad dash to grab her script from the other side of the studio in her new autumn wardrobe, amid calls for the pair to apologise over false accusations of queue jumping. The pair were accused of skipping the queue to see the Queen lying in state, but they were actually there in their capacity as journalists.

A petition for the pair to be axed from their jobs has already grown to 75,000 and counting. They explained last week why they went to Westminster Hall, to report on the events and show everyone who wasn't able to make it what it was like.

As they opened today's show, the pair seemed in good spirits as they laughed and joked about Holly's outfit choice and her mad dash across the studio to get her script, which she had accidentally left behind.

The pair laughed and joked about Holly's faux pas, as viewers continued to call for the pair to apologise over 'queuegate'. One wrote: "Does queue jumping seem like a distant memory? #HollyandPhil #ThisMorning," whilst another added: "Its not about trolling its what and how they did it. For that few minute segment. Shame on ITV. Slowly other celebs are coming forward with their opinion now."

However, other viewers called for the tweets to stop and urged people to focus on other things on the show.

ITV issued a statement at the time to confirm the pair were there in a work capacity, writing: "Hello everyone, we would like to clarify something. We asked Phillip and Holly to be part of a film for this Tuesday’s programme They did not jump the queue, have VIP access or file past the Queen lying in state – but instead were there in a professional capacity as part of the media to report on the event."

Whilst Holly said in a voice over as the clips were aired last week: "Like hundreds of accredited broadcasters and journalists we were given official permission to access the hall. It was strictly for the purpose of reporting on the event for millions of people in the UK who haven’t been able to visit Westminster in person. The rules were that we would be quickly escorted around the edges to a platform at the back. In contrast those paying respects walked along a carpeted area beside the coffin and were given time to pause.

"None of the broadcasters and journalists took anyone's places in the queue and no one filed past the Queen. We of course respected those rules however we realised that it may have looked like something else and therefore we totally understand the reaction."

Body language expert Judi James previously revealed the pair seemed "low energy" during yesterday's show.

Judi told The Mirror : "Their names alone imply bright-eyed, bubbly presenting but in this clip we can see Phil’s body pose looking lower on energy and bounce while Holly seems to aim for more of her usual levels of non-verbal positivity. The harp music should create some sense of soothing and calm for the duo but their body language responses at the end look full of contrasts.

"Holly sits straight-backed here, turned in her seat to face the harpist and with her legs crossed elegantly. Her clapping is loud and involves her hands held high in a gesture of not only appreciation but also of some levels of comfort about drawing attention to herself.Phil, in contrast, sits low on his stool, leaning his upper body weight on his elbows on the table. He claps in this position, without lifting his elbows and keeping his hands at chin level in a much more muted pose that suggests low-energy."
