Dermot O'Leary has been handed a 'key advantage' in the competition be This Morning's next full time presenter, as the search for a permanent replacement for Phillip Schofield.
Phillip announced he was leaving This Morning after 21 years, at the end of last month, assuring fans he'd still be working with ITV, only for him then to exit the broadcaster with immediate effect less than a week later, after admitting to having an affair with a much younger This Morning runner.
Holly Willoughby was off work at the time of Phillip's confession, returning in early June to tell viewers she was 'troubled' and 'let down' by the scandal surrounding Phillip. She was joined for her first two shows back at the helm by Josie Gibson, before Craig Doyle came in last Wednesday and Thursday.
And now it's former X Factor host Dermot who is being partnered with Holly, with them hosting the show for the first time together since Dermot was a guest host on This Morning a decade ago.
After they hosted on Monday, the jury was still very much out on whether their double act was the right one for the show's future, but viewers will have to get used to seeing a bit more of Dermot, as he has confirmed he will be acting as a main presenter for the next two weeks.
As soon as Phillip left This Morning, Dermot was made red hot favourite by bookies to replace him, before then being eclipsed in the odds by his Friday presenting colleague Alison Hammond. However, with two weeks to impress his ITV bosses, it looks like Dermot could be back in front.
There has been some support for a Dermot and Holly partnership on This Morning, with one viewer taking to Twitter to post: "Well done Dermot .Thought you and Holly worked well together. Breath of Fresh air instead of what we've been subjected to in the past," with another commenting: "Holly and Dermot are quite good together #ThisMorning (but he is also just as good with Alison)"
