Alison Hammond apologised for interrupting the latest show after being offered support by her This Morning co-host. The presenter was back at the helm of the ITV daytime show on Friday (January 13) alongside Dermot O'Leary.
The pair kicked off the show in unusual style as they 'laughed in the face' of superstition due to it being Friday the 13th. They were seen backstage before making their way into the main London-based studio where Gyles Brandreth got told off by Dermot for putting an umbrella up in the studio and wearing a jumper with a lack cat on.
The former X Factor host was then seen throwing some spilled salt over his shoulder before scolding Alison for putting new shoes on the table in front of them. It then ended with Alison looking into a mirror before turning it round to show it was full of cracks.
Explaining the rather odd start to the show, Dermot said: "It's Friday 13th this morning, we're just laughing in the face of it," as a calendar showing the date flashed up on the screen. The hosting duo also spoke about their own superstitions before later being joined by The Speakmans.
Nik and Eva were on hand to help viewers try and move past their own Friday 13th superstitions with them revealing that they were due to have someone with fears of the day in the studio before they backed out.
During one of the calls, Eva advised the viewer to keep a diary of good things and bad things that have happen in their life and note how many didn't actually happen on the 13th. And it appeared to trigger Alison to suddenly remembered her own experiences with the 13th.
"Do you know what? It's just reminded me. It's the 13th of January today isn't it? It's the day my mum passed away, in bed 13 and we buried her on February 13. It's just literally come to me. And we did it on the 13th because I just thought 'why not?' so I don't associate it with anything bad, it was a lovely funeral."
She then added: "It's literally just come to me, sorry," as she turned to Dermot who reached out to hold her hand and said: "It's alright." Nik also asked if she was ok to which she nodded.
Alison's mum, Maria, died in January 2020 from liver and lung cancer. Alison shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram on Valentine's Day the same year after laying her mum to rest in "a beautiful ceremony she would have been proud of."
Maria's death was then followed by the loss of Alison's father, Clifford Hammond, in Jamaica four months later in June 2020. Taking to Instagram on the anniversary of her mum's death last year, Alison shared a throwback photo of her mum.
She wrote alongside the beautiful photo: "Mummy Two years today you left me and the pain has never left my heart. I love and Miss you sooo much. I hear and feel you all the time. My Angel Maria."
