This Morning: Matthew Wright addresses 'atmosphere' on show amid Holly and Phil's 'feud'

Regular This Morning guest Matthew Wright has addressed the rumours of a feud between Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. The TV presenter appeared on the show on Wednesday morning, May 17, to discuss the latest headlines with Phil and Holly, which the two stars have been heavily dominating as of late.

It has been reported recently that the once-beloved duo's friendship had "cooled" after Phil's absence from the show last month, as his brother, Timothy, was found guilty of sexually abusing a teenage boy whilst working for Avon and Somerset Police. Phil released a statement last week, asserting that Holly was his "rock" and that they remained "the best of friends" following a difficult time in his life.

ITV confirmed at the weekend that Phil and Holly were to remain on This Morning following mounting speculation that the pair could be stepping away from the sofa. However, a TV insider claimed to The Sun earlier this week that it is "highly unlikely" Phil will be part of the This Morning family come September, as his contract expires in the summer.

Amid reports that Holly feels "trapped", Matthew has weighed in on the rumours, claiming there was a "terrific atmosphere" during his appearance on This Morning yesterday. "Not sure I believe half of what you read about Holly and Phil," he wrote on Twitter yesterday afternoon.

"Terrific atmosphere on set today as per."

Holly and bosses at ITV were said to have been left unhappy when Phil addressed their supposed rift in his statement last week. The pair of presenters are still yet to address the situation on-air, as viewers tuning in for Monday morning's show were left feeling annoyed when they didn't mention the "elephant in the room" whilst discussing the day's biggest news stories.

It is understood that senior figures at ITV held crisis talks after viewers complained about Monday's show on social media. A source told MailOnline: "Social media is used as a barometer to see what the public think.

"Those in charge were left no under no illusion that it was a total disaster. It was painful for the This Morning team to work on and it was just as painful for them to watch.

"There was a meeting afterwards to discuss how it went that went on for some time. To be honest, everyone was just so relieved to get it over with, but even if the show does continue to go on for some time, it will continue to be a massive headache."

Phillip has also been branded an "obnoxious, horrible man" by a fellow TV star. Kim Woodburn spoke on GB News, saying: "I have had so many run-ins. He is an obnoxious, horrible man and I don't know why he's still on television."
