This Morning fans slam proposed new Love Island for mums and dads in their 40s and 50s

Viewers of This Morning slammed a proposed new format for Love Island that would see mums and dads in their 40s and 50s look for their perfect match. ITV2 has announced it will be launching a brand-new series for people between the ages of 40 to 50 with "normal bodies".

A source told The Sun: “Times change and the current generation in their 40s and 50s still care about how they look, are fit and healthy, into fashion and are ready to let their hair down. This show will give those who settled down young a second chance at love while they still feel in their prime."

Presenters Dermot and Alison discussed the proposal for the new show in a segment on Friday (July 22) with Giles Brandreth and Michael Wright. Alison was hugely supportive of the new show format.

When discussing the new ITV programme, Michael asked: "Can you not go in if you're married? That's not allowed? Can you be naked - can you take all of your clothes off?"

While Alison said: "I don't think you can do that. It's basically Love Island but a little bit older, I think I'd love it."

Guest Giles proved he was already a big fan of the existing ITV2 show: "I am hooked on Love Island, I absolutely love Love Island."

When he said that he was "waiting by the phone" for the producers of Love Island to call, Alsion asked: "Do you think it would pull in the audiences though? Giles, do you think you could pull in the audiences?"

Giles answered: "It is fascinating, it is both about seeing beautiful people and also about relationships and how people fail to get on. I think it would be quite interesting to see people who have been around the block a few times as it were."

Many This Morning viewers were unimpressed with the idea of a Love Island for middle-aged people.

@Samanth22356123 commented: "Oh god don’t make OAP Love Island anything like Matchmaker Mountain!!!! #ThisMorning."

@EnfieldGarry said: "Love Island for Mums and Dads, oh my god. #ThisMorning"

@Christopher_T42 added: "Oh god not more love island #ThisMorning"

While @whitestofurwave said 30-year-olds should be allowed on the show: "So love Island you basically have to be in your 20s and "love island for mum and dad" you have to be 40+, poor 30s the decade when you want to meet someone."

Friday marks the presenters' last show before the pair go on break after Dermot called Alison a b***h live on air this week. They will be replaced by Rylan Clark and Ruth Langsford.
