This Morning viewers were in tears as a couple with a 40-year age gap described their first meeting.
Edna Martin, 87, and Simon Martin, 47, met at a concert when Edna was 68 whilst Simon was just 28. They bumped into one another and believe it was "destiny" that they were meant to meet then and this way.
The pair crossed paths in later life for Edna but she believes it was meant to be as they opened up about the secret to their longstanding romance. They had a trial two weeks together at the start of their romance and things got stronger from there.
During their chat with hosts Ruth Langsford and Rylan Clark, Edna admitted: "At the time, I believe the British average was 28 months, so if you counter that against 17 years, we’re doing pretty damn good. I think we’ve overtaken!
"I knew and I think Simon will tell you, we both knew that this was The One. People think they fall in love in life lots of times and it’s happened to most people, or it will do, but there is someone out there who is your absolute destiny."
She added: "You don’t have to look for them. Like with Simon and myself, we actually fell over each other in a doorway in a dressing room. I wasn’t looking because I’d been here a long time and I’ve been married before and other relationships, but never like this."
They also shared how their chance meeting changed the course of their lives.
"Once we’d met, we knew there was something there, so we decided we were going to explore that’d see how it went. Ed suggested that I come over to Weston [from Birmingham] and we spent two weeks together. ‘Do we have a relationship?’ and of course at the end of that, we did," he added of the first few weeks of their romance.
Viewers rushed to social media to congratulate the pair on finding one another.
One viewer wrote: "What a beautiful couple on @thismorning, can't stop smiling at them! Age really is nothing but a number with these two! #ThisMorning," as another added: "This has melted my cynical heart #ThisMorning."
"So funny how the majority of us were judging this relationship so easily then once they got talking we’ve come around to the idea because we see how genuine their love is for each other #ThisMorning," a third shared.
A fourth wrote: "What a sweet couple, its not about age its about two souls finding each other at whatever stage of life. #thismorning," whilst a fifth penned: "Well they’re happy and not hurting anyone so good luck to 'em #ThisMorning."
"Such a lovely interview with a lovely couple. Rylan wonderful as ever. Not a smug face in sight unlike previous interview," a sixth said.
