Holly Willoughby and Phillip Scofield finally made their long-awaited return to This Morning on Monday, and upon their comeback, eagle-eyed fans couldn't help but comment on their unexpected welcome back.
The This Morning duo beamed on set of the ITV morning show as they told viewers that they were over the moon to be back to their hosting duties after enjoying a chilled out summer break.
The Monday morning show kicked off to a rather bizarre start with an animated rendition of Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious from Mary Poppins, with Holly and Phil nowhere to be seen for the first few moments of the show.
However, the pair finally graced the screens after the Mary Poppins performance came to an explosive end outside the ITV studios in London with Holly emerging from the sky under an umbrella as she embodied Mary.
While donning a red dress, Holly beamed underneath a black umbrella as she descended from the sky, meeting her co-star back on the ground.
"I've always wanted to do that. Oh my days that was so fun," Holly laughed as she made it back on the ground.
Following the opener, baffled fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts.
"Was I dreaming that? Holly Willoughby falling from the sky. It's too early for this," one joked.
"That was a bit over the top no? Jheez," another echoed.
"Oh my days what did I just watch? Love it though," someone else tweeted.
"ITV need to CHILL," joked another.
While a fifth fan chimed: "Holly looks so good! Even as Mary Poppins."
The pair recently opened up about their summer breaks, admitting that they are amazing friends outside of work too, having met up several times over the past couple of weeks for adventurous days out and fun-filled barbecues.
Speaking about his summer, Phil told The Mirror: "The best time about summer is turning off the alarm and switching off.
"I usually have three alarms that get me up in the morning - two on my phone and one on the Alexa - and it's nice that when you finish for summer you can switch off the alarms. I have three because when you’re getting up at 5.30am, you’ve got to be sure you’re going to wake up, and actually the final alarm really is my driver either phoning or banging on the window - that's when I know I’m cutting it fine! So having all of that gone is a nice feeling."
Meanwhile, Holly added: "Summertime for me is really about spending time with the kids and the family. School term time is really busy for them, and in telly land it’s as busy as ever too now that the world has opened up again - there's so much more stuff to do.
"It’s all lovely of course, but it is nice to get that marker in the sand. I tend to take a bit of a break from social media at the same time as well, so for me, when I come back in September I'm ready to start again. It’s a real re-set for me."
*Holly and Phillip are back on This Morning as it continues tomorrow at 10am on ITV.
