Holly Willoughby's co-star has confirmed when This Morning very soon following Phillip Schofield's shock exit.
Over the weekend, it was announced that Phil had quit the ITV programme with immediate effect, meaning his last day of work on the show was the previous Thursday. In a statement, he confirmed he had stepped down from his role presenting on the show, which he had been at the helm of for several years alongside his co-presenter Holly.
Whilst Phil has now gone, Holly is still on the show – but is taking an early half-term break amid the shock of Phil's exit.
Her co-star Camilla Tominey – who regularly appears on the programme in the new segment – has confirmed that Holly will be back on the blue sofa very soon, and in a column, the journalist stated that Holly would be back fronting the show on June 5.
It is not currently known whether someone will be signed up to replace Phil completely or whether the show will follow suit of Good Morning Britain, who has had several male presenters sit alongside Susanna Reid following Piers' exit from the programme.
In his statement at the weekend, Phil said he was stepping down to allow the show to have a "bright future".
"I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, the show itself has become the story. Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind. I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love," he said.
"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future. I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me and I’ll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."
At the time, Holly also issued a statement where she said the sofa wouldn't be the same without Phil.
"It’s been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour. The sofa won’t feel the same without him," she shared.
