Well, now you can. YourStory is a new British business that looks to collect people’s most significant memories and print them into individualised books that you can keep forever.
A perfect idea for a birthday or Christmas present, or even just something to keep as a family heirloom, these books are a way to capture all those stories that you know and love from the people you cherish most.
YourStory has even built a Memory Keepsake Generator that gives prompts to those trying to recollect their fondest memories, so that they can ensure no story is left untold.
Once the stories have been collected, the memories will then be transformed into a hardbound book, creating a timeless keepsake filled with stories from all the generations before you.
To get you started, YourStory will ask you or the person whose stories you’re collecting to choose an area of their life that they want to answer questions on. They’ll then be emailed the questions which can be answered at their own pace.
You can also add in images to give it an extra personalised touch, and a percentage of each sale goes to the Alzheimer’s Society, so it’s a feel-good buy too.
Created by a brother-sister duo, YourStory was born out of a desire to keep family memories alive after the founders experienced the death of their dad at a young age, and watched their grandmother succumb to Alzheimer’s.
“We are all too aware of the need to preserve life stories before the opportunity is no longer there to ask loved ones about them. It’s also a handy way of setting the record straight in case some relatives remember things a little differently to you,” they said.
“Working as a brother and sister team in the UK, we are delighted to be able to offer this service to people, and have enjoyed helping so many mums, daughters, dads, sons and friends, celebrate their own life stories, and those of others.”
