Those hoping to top-up their petrol or diesel at Tesco Fforestfach yesterday (Tuesday, March 21) had to drive elsewhere as it was, unusually, closed.
The garage is hugely popular with motorists as it often serves up cheaper prices than can be found elsewhere and is a regular stopping point for supermarket and retail park shoppers, plus people on their way home from or to work.
A spokesperson for Tesco said the closure was due to damage to an underground cable, and that the petrol station had now re-opened and was trading as normal. “We are sorry for any inconvenience caused to our customers by the recent closure of the petrol station at our Cadle Extra store," the spokesperson added.
The reason for the damage is not known, but there is work taking place on part of the Tesco car park to create a new McDonald's drive-thru restaurant. You can read more about that here.
Opening hours are now as usual, from 7am-10pm, Monday-Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sunday. After it was reported that the price of wholesale diesel had fallen to a 15-month low, another Welsh petrol station recently sold the fueld for less than £1.50 litre.
