Wanting to cut streaming costs in 2025 has been a year-long challenge. With several price hikes across the best streaming services, many of us have had to start canceling subscriptions. This need becomes even more pressing around Christmas, when saving money feels especially important. While it might seem necessary to keep multiple services for the holiday content, that’s not the case when a single service can cover everything you need.
Of course, streaming bundles can help you save with discounted prices, but chances are you won’t use every service included. So, after checking out each service’s lineup for the month, I realized that Disney Plus is the clear winner for me. And that might be surprising to some.
Disney Plus won’t be everyone’s go-to choice, especially with Netflix dominating nearly every corner of streaming. But when it comes to holiday content (like festive movies, family classics, and exclusive specials), Disney has everything you need in one place, making it the ideal pick for Christmas viewing.
Disney Plus is a must-have for the holidays

Did you know the average person in the U.S. spends around $50 a month on video and TV subscriptions alone? It’s a wild number, and it really shows how normal price hikes have become every single year. Honestly, I don’t even want to think about what 2026 might look like. But heading into the festive season and the new year doesn’t have to break the bank, not if you stick to a single streaming service for your Christmas content.
Disney Plus has always been a bit of a “special occasion” service, the kind you dip into when the timing feels right. Its library is full of cozy classics and heartwarming flicks you might not reach for during the rest of the year. But at Christmas, the platform really shines, offering a surprisingly broad lineup of festive movies and holiday specials that make it worth keeping around.
Netflix, on the other hand, does release more Christmas originals, but this year, it hasn’t added much in the way of general festive movies. And the originals we did get haven’t exactly been great.

On price alone, Disney is tough to beat if you’re happy with the ad-supported plan at $11.99/month, which is cheaper than Netflix’s ad-free standard plan at $17.99. Even though Disney’s ad-free plan is $18.99 (slightly higher than Netflix’s), the lower-cost option still makes Disney Plus the smarter choice for budget-conscious viewers who genuinely want better seasonal content. You can just subscribe for the month and then cancel going into the new year.
What’s new on Disney Plus in December 2025 is also worth considering. Highlights include season 2 of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” the new animated movie “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw,” and the Taylor Swift concert movie and docuseries.
On top of that, Disney is adding a host of holiday-themed specials and seasonal episodes. Whether you’re watching with family, friends, or enjoying a quiet night alone, this service offers plenty of options. Basically, Disney Plus feels like a complete Christmas package.
Save money on streaming without missing out

It can feel like you need to subscribe to every major streaming service, especially if you’re an avid TV watcher, but, in reality, most people only stick with one or two. If you want solid holiday content with plenty of variety, Disney Plus is the clear choice this year. Of course, that could change by December 2026 if another service rolls out an even stronger lineup.
Disney Plus isn’t just about holiday movies as it’s powered by massive franchises like Marvel, Star Wars, Pixar and fresh 2025 releases that make it ideal for families or casual viewers. Even though movies like “Fantastic Four: First Steps” and “Thunderbolts” aren’t traditional “Christmas flicks,” they offer entertaining, accessible picks that everyone (from kids to adults) can enjoy together during the holidays.
So yes, you don’t need Netflix, and for this holiday season, Disney Plus has everything you actually want to watch. Why pay more or juggle multiple subscriptions when one service covers it all?
Disney Plus costs $11.99/month with ads or $18.99/month for the ad‑free Premium plan.
