‘This is temporary’ - Michael Skubala rules himself of Leeds United job on permanent basis

Michael Skubala has revealed he has no plans to become permanent Leeds United manager. As it stands, there is no clear favourite to take over the vacant gig at Elland Road.

Bookmakers place former Leeds coaches Carlos Corberan and Marcelo Bielsa among the leading candidates but there appears to be no front-runner for the role. An impressive stint as interim boss can often result in earning a managerial job full-time.

Former England futsal manager Skubala’s remit is to get the Whites through tricky back-to-back fixtures against Manchester United. Should he prove successful in those games, there will inevitably be calls for his appointment.

However, the 40-year-old has insisted his current position is only temporary and he plans to return to the under-21 setup once Elland Road chiefs find their man. Skubala said at his pre-match press conference: “This is a temporary situation. I'm happy to support the club and look after the club at this moment in time while they work really hard to find the new head coach.

“And I'll go back to my old role (under-21 manager) once this is done. I'll just do the best job I can do. I've been in a few jobs where changes happen quickly. I've seen change quite a lot. In m these moments, it's about being calm.

“It’s about being positive. It's been busy, I won't lie to you. It's been really busy - but it's exciting. As coaches, we enjoy challenges. This is a good challenge for the players, for myself and for our technical team.”
