‘This is medical racism’: Woman in labor while uncaring nurse fills out paper work and ignores her agony

Going into labor is supposedly one of the most painful experiences a mother can feel so it’s important that the doctors and nurses take it seriously. Unfortunately, not all medical staff are as concerned with making the experience as painless as possible, in fact, some make it worse.

One mother found herself being seen by a coldhearted nurse who seemed completely ignorant to her cries of agony. In a clip that has since gone viral on TikTok a woman is seen sitting in a wheelchair, she looks to be on the verge of giving birth right there. Meanwhile, the nurse sits at a computer asking her questions that could have definitely waited until after the baby had been delivered.

The clip was posted by kashman2814 and the caption explains that 12 minutes after the video was recorded the woman gave birth. The caption also calls out the nurse who made her sit in the waiting area for 30 minutes while presumably experiencing one of the most painful experiences a person can feel.

Even the most medically clueless individual would be able to tell you that the woman is obviously in labor and yet the nurse is taking her time and not reacting to the mother-to-be’s cries of pain. Keeping a cool head is a part of the job of course, but this level of indifference almost seems cruel and perhaps even intentional.

Was it racially motivated?

Another caption underneath the video suggests that the nurse’s apathetic attitude may have been brought about by racism, “deathly charge nurse! donot care bout black women and babies [sic].” Comments also backed this claim, “They don’t care about women of color,” wrote one person, “This is medical racism,” claimed another.

People were rightly wondering why there seemed to be no urgency on the nurse’s part. Most who know what it’s like to be in labor claimed that the woman should not have been in the waiting room but rather in labor and delivery.

In a follow-up video, the woman who posted the video explains that the woman who we see in the video was her daughter and what she describes sounds like a complete mess. Upon arrival at the hospital there was the same apathetic attitude from many of the staff, despite the fact the woman could not move there was practically no help.

More commenters chimed in recommending that the family sue the hospital. Others were able to find the name of the specific nurse from the video which they have already shared in the comments.

Thankfully the baby was delivered successfully and seems to be healthy. There are no answers as of yet whether or not the family intends to sue.
