An Atlanta woman decides to order a viral Walmart budget-friendly heart cakes for an event the next week. However, each bakery sends her on a wild goose chase to three different locations before she finally gives up.
In a video with over 95,000 views, TikToker @tammytwoswanson recounts the frustrating experience. She notes that she saw a heart cake online that she wanted to order, but needed to request a different frosting color in person.
First, she goes to the Walmart “five minutes away” from her home. She immediately notices that no one is working behind the bakery counter.
“It’s kind of dark and there’s no call button or anything,” she says. The TikToker asks another worker to call for assistance.
Finally, the baker comes out and she explains that she is looking for the cake she saw online in the catalog and would like to change the frosting color. She says the baker walks away and doesn’t return, prompting her to call for assistance two more times.
Another worker gets the baker on the phone, who informs them that the Walmart bakery is “all out of supplies” to make any new cakes.
“The supplies? This is a Walmart. The supplies are in the store,” the TikToker remarks.
Did the TikToker go to another Walmart?
After already wasting 45 minutes, the TikToker begrudgingly goes to a second Walmart further away from her home to try to order the cake.
“I see that the bakery is lit up. There’s someone behind there. So, I was like awesome, I’ll be able to put in my order,” she continues. However, the worker behind the counter quickly informs her that the bakery is actually closed and the baker wouldn’t return until the following Monday. No one else could put in the custom order, either.
They refer her to two other nearby Walmarts to try to order her cake. Before heading to the third Walmart, the TikToker double-checks that the bakery is open.
While the third Walmart’s bakery appears open, a deli worker at a nearby counter informs her that the baker actually leaves early every day. She decides to head to customer service to see if a manager can help her put in the order.
“I felt like such a Karen doing that,” she remarks. But despite asking the manager to put the order in, they shoot down her request, too. The manager claims that only the baker can put in a custom order.
After three Walmarts, the TikToker was fed up with the experience and decided to order a more expensive cake from a small bakery an hour away.
“The real frustrating part was that every Walmart was kinda directing me to another one,” she says at the end of the clip. “I thought I had time, and they wasted so much of it.”
Have other customers been disappointed by the heart cakes?
The TikToker isn’t the only one to share frustrating experiences with Walmart’s bakery on social media. The Mary Sue previously reported that another TikToker went to pick up her custom heart cake, only for it to miss details she specified. The woman says the bakery worker was “rude” when she requested the details be added on at pick-up.
In the comments of the TikToker’s video, other viewers share their disappointing experiences, too.
“Yeah they canceled my birthday cake the day of my birthday……,” one shares.
Another says, “This is a cake that I received from Walmart. It was supposed to be galaxy themed. The cake was uneven. no boarder no happy birthday. I asked what happen and they said they couldn’t fix it.”
“Girl I tried to go three times for the same thing and I was told ‘you gotta call before 11 am and they might answer’ and that’s all I heard lol,” a third adds.
However, others say the experience may depend on which Walmart a customer orders from.
“The Walmart cake decorator at my Walmart is so meticulous and has this calm girl energy about her. The cakes always come out perfect,” a commenter writes.
“I don’t know what is up with the Walmarts where you are at cause i would also be pissed if i were you. I’ve worked at 3 different Walmarts in 2 different states and we don’t do that,” a second remarks.
@tammytwoswanson @Walmart count your days ?? also would like to add that i am privileged that this was the most annoying thing that happened to me last week but i just wanted to vent about my experience trying to order the viral walmart heart cake. the walmart that didn’t have enough supplies also had pickup times available so it just seems like it was just an unorganized process all around, but once again, it’s really not that serious #walmart #walmartcakedecorator #bakery #birthday #fyp ♬ original sound – tom nooks number one hater
