This govt school students launch Youtube channel in local Kannada dialect

MYSURU: Students of a government high school in a village in Nanjangud taluk have picked the James Webb Space Telescope as the subject for their YouTube channel, which they will present in the local dialect so that their classmates, parents and other villagers can know more about the subject.

The channel, Namschool TV, is a name given by one of the students of the high school in Heggadalli. It is run by the students with the help of schoolteacher Santosh Guddeyangadi, who first had the idea of such a channel. School headmaster AM Lingaraju explained that the parents are proud of the initiative. “Our children are from rural households. It is inspiring for these students to engage in these activities,” he said.

Thirty videos are on this channel now that highlight various activities of the students with a focus on theatre. In total, 117 students are in Classes IX and X in this high school.

“We are telecasting the programmes in the Nanjangud dialect which is used by local people to ensure that every student and their parents follow the content. We record the programme on mobile by creating a studio in the classroom,” Santosh, who helps the students in script writing, recording, editing and other work on this channel, said. “Initially, we launched this YouTube channel to upload our plays and theatre activities. Now we are putting up other content like science and school activities,” he said.

Kusuma, who named the YouTube channel and aspires to study medicine, and Mamata, a Class IX student who wants to become an engineer, prepare the news and other content. “It expands our knowledge. It inspires us to dream big,” one of the girls said.
