'This Geordie can play' - Bristol Rovers fans left purring after Elliot Anderson nets first senior goal

Elliot Anderson continued his brilliant Bristol Rovers loan spell as he scored his first senior goal in their 4-0 win against Stevenage.

The Newcastle United youngster has been setting League Two alight with Joey Barton’s side this term and stood out yet again on Saturday.

The Gas continued their ascent towards the play-off places in the fourth tier and were, once again, indebted to the performance of Anderson.

After his loan side went into half time a goal in front, the 19-year-old stole the show in the second half and netted his first goal in senior football less than five minutes after the break.

He then turned provider moments later as his inch-perfect cross was turned into the back of the net by namesake team mate Harry Anderson.

Aaron Collins wrapped up the scoring on a day where Barton admitted his side could have scored eight or nine goals instead of the four they notched.

In their coverage of the match, our sister site, Bristol Live, were mightily impressed by the performance of the Newcastle youngster and awarded him a nine in their player ratings.

His rating was accompanied by a fitting description of his performance, Sam Frost wrote: “A class above. Worth the admission fee in his own right and Stevenage were made to pay a handsome price as they watched him wreak havoc at the Lamex.

“So unfortunate to shoot wide after leaving defenders' heads spinning before the break, but he did not have to wait long for his first senior goal.

“He raced onto a sublime flick from Nicholson and drilled into the bottom corner. Added an assist moments later with a pinpoint cross.”

Barton was full of praise for Anderson following Rovers’ 2-0 win against Sutton in midweek and he will seriously be questioning how they have managed to acquire a player of his quality.

In the space of just five appearances, he has already become a fans’ favourite at the Memorial Stadium and those supporters were left purring after his display against Stevenage.

Here is what some of them had to say on Twitter.
