This Fife pub is the year's best in Scotland, according to a top industry body

A DUNFERMLINE bar has been named Scottish Pub of the Year by the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA)

It's the first time the Commercial Inn, on Douglas Street, has won the national title.

A delighted Andrew Black, who runs the pub, said he's been too busy with pots and pans to raise a glass yet.

He laughed: "Yeah, I heard about it this morning, about 11am, and I'm absolutely chuffed to bits.

"It's a big achievement for us. It's the first time the Commercial has won the Scottish title – I'm not sure if any Fife pubs have ever won it before? – so it's been a real emotional day for us.

"I've spent it working away in the kitchen all day though!

"But I'm just about to finish so I'll maybe have a wee glass of champagne later."

Asked what makes the Commercial stand out, he replied: "We're a proper real ale pub and always have been for years and years.

"We've been awarded on our ales and ale quality, the standard of service and the fact it's a friendly community pub.

"It's a big thank-you to everyone that made this happen, the staff especially and the customers.

"They make the pub what it is."

After the award was announced the Commercial posted on their Facebook page: "We did it! CAMRA Pub Of The Year Scotland 2022!

"A massive thank you to all the staff and people who made this possible. Long live the local!"

In March the pub picked up the Fife pub of the year award, which they've won several times before, followed by the regional title in June.

Now it's the toast of Scotland and Andrew added: "Being pub of the year should bring in new custom and customers and obviously we'll be advertising the hell out of it!

"We'll get a banner up to tell people about what we've done and hopefully we'll keep getting busier.

"There's actually two more rounds, next one takes in the north-east of England too, and after that it's the UK title.

"I'm quite happy being the best in Scotland though!"
