New findings from a study conducted on mice suggest that following a ketogenic (keto) diet might offer a potential defence against the onset of Alzheimer's disease. The study, led by researchers from the University of California, Davis (UC Davis), revealed that a keto diet, characterised by low-carbohydrate and high-fat intake, could delay the onset of Alzheimer's in a mouse model.
According to the study, mice fed a keto diet showed a notable increase in the levels of beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) molecules, which are associated with protection against neuroinflammation—a key factor in the development of Alzheimer's disease.
