This dating app lets AI chat to potential matches on your behalf

Artificial intelligence has slowly worked its way into dating apps over the years. It powers your daily match suggestions on Hinge and can even craft your Tinder bio.

But the arrival of ChatGPT has taken AI-powered dating to the next level, with people tapping the chatbot to concoct chat-up lines and flirty banter for prospective matches.

So, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that a new dating app is going all in on AI to help attention-zapped users meet up quicker IRL.

Teaser AI, which is available to pre-order on the iOS App Store, promises to give you your own chatbot that can message others on your behalf.

Once you match with someone, you’ll be able to see these AI-powered convos and decide whether you want to go on a date.

The new app is from the makers of Dispo, an alternative to Instagram that mimics the experience of using a disposable camera. After generating some initial buzz, some of that app’s sheen was wiped off by the viral success of BeReal, another photo-sharing app that focuses on impromptu moments.

Teaser AI’s goal, according to the app’s developer, is to make awkward small talk a thing of the past. However, there are other dating services that also claim to do just that. Intro, for instance, ditches the chit-chat altogether and only allows you to organise a date.

Of course, not everyone will be comfortable with skipping straight to a real-life rendezvous. But can you trust an AI to be your wingman?

On the one hand, the latest wave of AI chatbots is smart enough to hold conversations on a dizzying range of topics. But, conversely, they are also known for spouting misinformation — a concept known in tech circles as a hallucination.

The last thing you want is for your AI replicant to spew gibberish or tell fibs about you, especially when it could cost you a date with a prospective partner.

For its part, Teaser AI appears to be selling its core feature as an icebreaker instead of a full-blown matchmaking assistant.

The AI bot begins learning about you as soon as you start using the app through your profile and chats. It then uses this info to power its convos with other AI personas on the app.

According to Teaser AI, the bot can give others a sense of who you are and vice versa. You can then focus on the stuff that matters, like swapping phone numbers and asking to go on a date.

This sense of urgency also applies to the app’s approach to human conversations. If you don’t say something to a match within 24 hours, your connection will expire. In addition, the company says it will verify every user to ward off catfishing and creeps — something Tinder has been pushing members to do of late with new security features to enhance authenticity.

It may all sound too good to be true, but at least you don’t have long to wait to try it out. The app is slated to arrive this month, according to Business Insider.

And, if nothing else, you can have a laugh at the AI-powered results. “Of course, it’s not perfect, but… it’s often pretty funny,” the app store description reads.
