A passenger once got into a cab in Mumbai expecting nothing more than a ride to their destination. What they got instead was a conversation that stopped them mid-sentence, the man driving them had represented India at international athletics events, and had four gold, ten silver and eight bronze. Twenty-two podium finishes across meets in Italy, Australia, and beyond. And here he was, navigating Mumbai's chaotic traffic for a living.
That man is Parag Patil, 47, from Badlapur. By profession, he's a cab driver. By calling, he's a sprinter and jumper who has spent close to two decades chasing medals for a country that, by his own admission, has rarely chased him back.
