A third person has been arrested in connection to the murder of Elle Edwards.

The 26-year-old beautician, was shot in the head when she was caught in crossfire at the Lighthouse Inn, in Wallasey, on December 24. Police have confirmed they don't believe Elle was the intended target of the shooting, as four other men were also shot and injured during the attack.

One of those, a 28-year-old man from Beechwood, continues to receive medical treatment. Officers have now made a third arrest, a 31-year-old man from Tranmere.

He has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder. He is currently in custody where he will be questioned by detectives.

Merseyside Police have also been given additional time to question a 30-year-old man from Tranmere, arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, and a 19-year-old woman from Rock Ferry arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder and they both remain in custody.

An investigation into Elle’s murder remains ongoing. Deputy Chief Constable Ian Critchley, said: "We are continuing to support the family of Elle Edwards and our thoughts remain with them and her friends at this incredibly difficult time.

"Guns have no place in our communities. We have seen here the devastation they can cause, and the senseless loss to a family of their loved one by the most cowardly of acts. I want our communities to be reassured that we will be relentless in finding those who choose to use them and store the weapons and bring them to justice.

"Our activity and presence on the Wirral has not just been confined to the past few days. Operationally, our officers have been working around the clock throughout the whole year – including the Christmas period - to disrupt criminals by carrying out warrants, stop checks and stop searches, targeted operations and high visibility patrols, as well as working closely with our communities and local businesses."
