Things to do with the kids in Co Tyrone this summer

We are getting towards that time of year again, or in some cases we are already there.

Another school year done and dusted and the thought of school uniforms and early rises for the kids appears to be a long way away.

For many in the Co Tyrone area wondering how to keep everyone occupied over the summer months, luckily there is plenty on to keep them busy around the county.

We've compiled this list of all the family friendly events and activities that the kids can get up to over the holidays.

Ultimate Bubble Show at the Alley Theatre, Strabane - Sunday 25 June

Don’t miss the chance to join international ‘Bubbleologists’ and World Record holders Iain and Ray as they bring the ‘The Ultimate Bubble Show’ to the Alley Theatre on Sunday 25th June.

The Ultimate Bubble Show is a joyful romp and artistic treat for all the family with International Bubbleologists and Guinness World Record Holders. See exciting stunts, amazing magic and spectacular bubble displays and experience the very best in soap bubble entertainment as Iain and Ray begin their quest to discover the ultimate square bubble.

Omagh Show - 30 June and 1 July

Tyrone Farming Society looks forward to its 181st Annual Omagh Show, which will take place on Friday 30th June (Equestrian Only) and all events on Saturday 1st July 2023

A packed series of entertainment will be on offer at the festivities in the Omagh Showgrounds, while there is a bus available ferrying people from the bus station in the town to the event.

Ulster Fleadh - 16 July to 23 July

The Ulster Fleadh is the largest celebration of Irish Traditional, Music, Song, Dance and Language each July.

The Fleadh this year returns to Dromore, County Tyrone with a packed programme of events across eight days bringing fun and variety for all ages.

Teddy Bear's Picnic, Grange Park - 29 July

Celebrating 90 Years of Omagh born Jimmy Kennedy’s ‘The Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ song, the grounds at Grange Park Omagh will come alive with families and teddy bears on Saturday 29 July.

You can enjoy St Eugene’s Brass and Reed Band as they perform songs of the summer, including Jimmy Kennedy hits.

Outdoor Theatre, Strule Arts Centre - 1 July & 8 July

Following a successful 2022 outdoor summer season, Fermanagh and Omagh District Council delighted welcomes I K Productions’ unmistakable brand of ‘delightfully daft’ family theatre to Omagh for the first time.

Travel back in time to the land of heroes, monsters and myths and join Hercules as he labours for beauty, truth and love on 1 July

An open air adaptation of Bad Dad by David Walliams will take to the stage on 8 July.

Dromore Ulster Scots Celebrations - 11-13 July

The Annual 12th July Celebrations in Dromore from 11-13 July will see a festival with bands, groups, artists taking part on the day with a wide variety of different musical entertainment for everyone.

The event will begin on the evening of 11th July with activities for all the family to get involved in such as BBQ, family fun evening, bouncy castles etc before the main event starting on 12th July in the morning.

DU Dance Summer Dance Sessions, Dungannon

Every day from the 31st July to 4th August 2023 DU Dance will host sessions at the Hill of the O’Neill & Ranfurly Arts Centre in Dungannon

The week is open to everyone (no experience is necessary) and will include learning different dance styles, creating your very own dances and a sharing for parents at the end of the week.

Mid Ulster District Council summer schemes

Summer schemes will take place from 17 July to 11 August at Cookstown, Dungannon and Greenvale Leisure Centres, Meadowbank Sports Arena, Moneymore Recreation Centre, and Maghera Leisure Centre.

Throughout July and August, Mid Ulster District Council leisure centres and sports arenas are offering a selection of sporting activities for just £1 per person (under 18's only) from 1 July to 31 August 2023, including the following activities:

  • Swims Session

  • Soft play Session

  • Teen gym Session*

  • Courts (Table Tennis, Badminton, Basketball, 5x5 (£10 per group or £1 per individual)

  • Golf driving range (1st basket of balls)

  • Golf par 3

  • Athletics track

  • Tennis courts

  • 3G Pitches (£10 per group or £1 per individual)
