Things to do this Easter holiday in Liverpool, Wirral and beyond

There are many fun things to do across Merseyside and beyond to keep the kids entertained this Easter holiday, from egg hunts and funfairs to dinosaur shows to cuddling lambs.

Whether you’re wanting to find an exciting activity for the whole family to get involved with or somewhere to educate your child, there’s bound to be something on our list that fits the bill. Some activities take place in Liverpool and across Merseyside, with others being further afield for those wanting a full day out.

Most events run throughout the Easter holidays from Monday, April 11, to Friday, April 22. This means there’s plenty of time to pack in a variety of the below events and activities to ensure your little ones have an Easter holiday to remember.

Liverpool Indoor Funfair

Liverpool Indoor Funfair returns this Easter with a variety of rides and attractions to keep the whole family entertained. Exhibition Centre Liverpool will be transformed with family favourite rides, including the Waltzer, Sizzler Twist, Fun House and Super Bob. There will also be games with prizes and treats up for grabs.

Speke Hall

The National Trust is hosting multiple Easter egg hunts at its Speke Hall property in Liverpool over the Easter holiday for all of the family to get involved with. Along the way, you can explore Speke Hall’s vast garden and woodland.

When: April 11 to 18.

Price: £3 per child (plus general admission). Price includes a trail map, pencil and a chocolate egg. You don't need to pre-book.

Otterspool Adventure

Families heading to Otterspool Adventure this Easter can enjoy a parade and visit a petting farm with fluffy chicks, bunnies, ducks and lambs. The experience also includes a ticket to the Adventures of Alice Show.

Here, the audience can join Alice, the Mad Hatter and the evil Queen of Hearts on their magical journey through Wonderland. The show features singing, dancing and special surprises.

When: April 9 to 24.

Strawberry Field

Strawberry Field in Woolton which was made famous by The Beatles’ iconic song is putting on Easter egg hunts, garden explorer tours, faith celebrations and family fun animation this Easter.

The egg hunt at Strawberry Field involves children and families searching the grounds where John Lennon played as a child. Visitors will be able to pick up a map and magnifying glass to help them explore “the joys of spring” in the Strawberry Field gardens.

St Helens Theatre Royal, Peter Pan

Head to St Helens Theatre Royal for some Easter panto fun with its adaptation of Peter Pan. Join Peter, Wendy, John, Michael, Tinkerbell and friends as they leave St Helens behind and head to Neverland. Here they will enjoy daring adventures battling the evil Captain Hook, and along the way they’ll meet Pirates, Fairies, Lost Boys, Indians, and a tick-tocking crocodile.

When: April 2 to 18.

Liverpool Trampoline Gymnastics Academy

Throughout Easter, the centre is hosting an Easter camp on weekdays from Monday, April 11 to Friday, April 29. This will cost £15 for half a day or £20 for a full day from 9am to 4pm.

Martin Mere Duck Trail

WWT Martin Mere Wetland Centre is hosting Easter Duck Trails this April. Families will go in search of the bright yellow ducks hidden around the wetlands with the help of a trail card and clues. Along the way, you’ll learn about real life ducks and there will be other activities for families to enjoy.

When: April 2 to 18.

Bates Farm

Head to Bates Farm in Warrington to take part in farm tours and meet and cuddle lots of cute animals. There are lambs, sheep, calves and cattle, plus plenty of Easter activities.

Cheshire Oaks

Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet is hosting an ‘Alice in VR Wonderland’ experience this Easter. This is an immersive adaptation of the timeless tale by Lewis Carroll where audiences will be invited to enter a specially designed truck for a 20-minute experience. Audience members will be immersed in a 360-degree virtual reality wonderland using a VR headset and 3D sound

When: April 8 to 17.

Epstein Theatre, Jack And The Beanstalk

If you want a fun show to enjoy with all the family, Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre is putting on a Jack And The Beanstalk panto this Easter. The tale tells the rags to riches story of a boy who sells the family’s cow for a handful of beans. It takes a magical turn when the beans spout into a beanstalk that reaches up to a mystical land high in the sky.

Audiences will join Jack on his journey up the beanstalk as he discovers geese with golden eggs, a magic harp, and a close encounter with a very hungry giant.

When: April 13 to 24.

Chester Zoo Storytelling Extravaganza

Chester Zoo is hosting more than 100 activities over Easter during its “pop-up storytelling” extravaganza. The storytelling performances incorporate song, dance, puppetry and art, and there will be a different act each day.

Maritime Museum

Join the Maritime Museum for a variety of activities centred around the Titanic over Easter. This includes story time with Polar the Titanic bear, Tall Tales of a Titanic Survivor and Titanic – Fashions and Fortunes.

Museum of Liverpool

There are plenty of activities taking place at the Museum of Liverpool over Easter. There’s a footy demonstration with Mr Silky Skills, a drama workshop inspired by displays in the Wondrous Place gallery, Transport Craft at the Museum workshop, Up Close with Archaeology and Up Close with Toys.

International Slavery Museum

Lady Lever Art Gallery, Walker Art Gallery and Sudley House

For children who love arts and crafts, Lady Lever Art Gallery, Walker Art Gallery and Sudley House are putting on Craft and Create workshops. These will help inspire kids for their next art project.

When: April 12 to April 22

World Museum

Over the Easter holidays, World Museum is putting on a number of activities to fascinate and educate children. First up is the Great Egg Case Hunt, an alternative Easter egg hunt exploring the eggs you find washed up on the beach. There’s also World Microscope Week where kids will look at creatures, minerals, rocks and plants up close, plusKitchen Sink Science: Climate Change where children can carry out experiments.

East Lancashire Railway

Visit East Lancashire Railway ’s Wizards' Academy and Dino Adventure this Easter holiday. The Wizards’ Academy is an interactive day out for all aspiring witches and wizards and includes wand waving, broomstick skills and defeating evil forces. You will also board the Wizard Express for a two-hour round trip through Irwell Valley.

The Dino Adventure is a time travelling steam journey through the Irwell Valley transporting dino fans back to the Jurassic Period. Dinosaur lovers will be able to get up close with prehistoric creatures during the train ride and there will be a variety of activities.

Imagine That!

Liverpool’s science and discovery centre Imagine That! is hosting a heap of fun this Easter. There will be Easter bingo and egg hunts, plus all of the usual activities, including playing in gooey slime in the Slime Factory.

Price: £14.95 for children, £12.95 for under threes (babies go free) and £7.95 for adults. You must book in advance here.

Greenwood Family Park

If you fancy a day out in North Wales, Greenwood Family Park is hosting an egg hunt in its Forest Adventure Park, a “ThrillFunning” show of magic and mystery, and “WhizzSplashing-MindBlowing-BuzzFuzzling” rides and experiences, from rollercoasting to splashing and crafting.
