Things to do in London this weekend (May 20-22)

Pizza party: Palazzo, from the Made of Dough team, is running a discount in Crystal Palace this weekend

(Picture: Handout)

All this glorious sunshine we’ve been having recently should carry on into the weekend, so we’d recommend topping up your Vitamin D levels by getting a bit closer to those blue skies on one of London’s newest rooftops.

Elsewhere, south London dwellers have a brand new bar and diner to visit — with a tasty discount on food — there’s a fascinating exhibition over in Kensington, and a fizzingly fresh club night exploring Latinx dance music in Dalston.

For all that and more, read on.

The restaurant: Lucky Club Camden

(Harry Johnson)

There’s a new rooftop to check out in north London. The latest branch of the Lucky Club, a popular Mayfair fixture, has now opened in Camden, promising a Mexican-inspired menu of food and drink: think tacos, tostadas and ceviche, paired with margaritas and mezcal cocktails. There’s a top notch sound system to keep the vibes going, too.

The bar: Palazzo

(Handout)

Crystal Palace has a new hangout spot. Palazzo is an all-day bar and diner from the team behind the Made of Dough pizzerias. There’s a short and sweet menu — the likes of pork and veal meatballs, chicken milanese and, naturally, some ‘za — but the focus is on drinks, with Italian wine, cocktails and local beers. It’s open seven days a week, taking things through from brunch to evening DJ sets at the weekend — head down from Wednesday to Sunday this week for 30 per cent off food.

The exhibition: Weird Sensation Feels Good at the Design Museum

(Marc Teyssier)

Whether you find it unfailingly relaxing or skin-crawlingly weird, ASMR is a fascinating phenomenon. This new exhibition at the Design Museum explores Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (described as a “physical sensation of euphoria or deep calm, sometimes a tingling in the body, triggered through sound, touch, and movement”) and the growing field of creators dedicated to it. The Standard gave the exhibition it four stars; read the full review here.

Until October 16, from £10.90, 224-238 Kensington High Street, W8 6AG, designmuseum.org

The event: Prince of Peckham

(Handout)

The Prince of Peckham, one of the most popular boozers down in that part of south London, is celebrating its fifth birthday this week. There’s loads going on, and the party continues into the weekend, with Capital XTRA’s Manny Norté and Yinka Bokinni dropping in for DJ sets, karaoke sessions, and a toddler-friendly storytime on Sunday morning.

The club night: Epoka at Dalston Den

London’s freshest club night comes in the form of Epoka, which will land in Dalston Den for its launch night this weekend. A celebration of the Latinx club scene in the UK, expect vibrant sets covering reggaeton, perrero, baile funk, house and more, with the likes of El Tuma, Flores and Tu Beibi in charge of the tunes.

May 21, from £8, 89a Kingsland High Street, E8 2PB, ra.co

The wild card: Hotel AMANO Covent Garden

(John Athimaritis)

Looking for somewhere to head on a London staycation? Head to one of the city’s newest hotels, the 141-room AMANO in Covent Garden. Or if a full trip is off the cards, just head to the rooftop for snacks and cocktails, or pop down to the basement for nightly DJ sets at the weekend.
