Thieves make off with jars of sweets in Nottinghamshire shop burglary

Nottinghamshire shopkeepers have been left counting the cost of a burglary after thieves broke into his store and stole several jars of sweets. Police are investigating the burglary at Simply Sweet, in Carter Gate in Newark, which took place at around 5am on Sunday, January 8.

James Singer, co-owner of the shop, said he arrived at work later that morning to find a smashed window and missing sweets. “We spent most of Sunday clearing the mess up, luckily they didn’t take much," the 49-year-old told Nottinghamshire Live.

"They took a few jars of sugar free sweets and a few packed bags. It’s the annoyance more than anything. There was smashed window glass everywhere. We have to be really, really careful as we get a lot of children in the shop and we don’t want them to tread on glass."
